Actually, I meant with previous track records. It's sort of a tricky thing. Short sales and the buzz of those can produce someone like Ted Chiang, who I can't imagine would be passed by. But demonstrably poor novel sales for a single novel title or two, without the right project in hand, can be a big strike against an author.
