Sorry--I wasn't clear. I use mode one most of the time. I don't always go to mode two. (And sometimes I go back and forth.) If the story structure isn't coming together for me, I ditch it. It sucks, but it beats looking at 40,000 words of prose that has something indefinable missing from it, and it's actually easier for me to start over instead of trying to fit new thoughts into an older flawed framework.
