I only write short stories. So far. Thought I put that at the top. If not, I apologize.
What I said only works for me and short stories.
If I was doing a novel, I suspect I would ask a group of friends and send out each chatper [or whatever] while I worked on the next bit. Maybe... I might wait until I was 80% done and then start sending them out [chapter a week], hoping to finish before I got responses back on the first chapter and then go back and edit.
I suspect I would go work on short stories to stay busy rather than working on another novel while doing feedback, but I really don't know.
Re: Alias versus Real name
You could always just write it all in the whatever and then do a search replace on the second novel for her real name. Assuming no one ever mistakes her for her previous identity.
