Nevertheless - it is nice to see people who are close friends I seldom see and people who aren't really close friends yet but whose company I always enjoy, like yourself.
I think it was Karen Cooper (who is part of minnehaha) who mentioned that LJ has the effect of removing the "So what have you been up to?" portion of the conversation when distant friends meet. You are already caught up on their daily travails so you can go on talking from there.
