I really liked the SFWA sample contracts when I joined; I really wanted them to reflect what I, as a first time author (FTN) could actually get, though. It's hard to say "this is what you should be getting" because leverage counts. And most of us won't have much leverage (I imagine that someone like Ted Chiang would, for a first novel, because of the strength of his reputation on the shorts he has published).

And time? No, of course not <rueful g>. But this is my social life. Yes, I know it's sad -- this is my recreational blathering <wry g>.
