Yay! I actually checked LJ interests at one point -- as is obvious in context <g> -- to see if other people read Eva Ibbotson. There's something about her adult work that reminds me very much of McKinley, but absent all fantasy elements. I like, but don't love, her middle readers; I adore her out of print adult work, to the point of spending 40.00 for an ex-libris edition of Magic Flutes.
I liked Journey to the River Sea and loved Star of Kazan, which is the closest to her adult work she's come since she started writing for children.
