It's amazing how those so-called writer conference people kept smiling as we all walked up to them.
They insisted to me that they had editors from major houses coming, but couldn't name them yet. They also tried to convince me Lightning Press was a real publisher--I think the woman stuck at the table at that moment honestly didn't know better.
They told a friend that they'd "spoken to" people from Tor and Ballantine (I just bet they did, but not about being attendees!), and tried to offer her a free membership to try the conference for herself when she remained skeptical.
