Sadly, we didn't have candles -- we had, for some reason, small sparklers. We also had an eighteen month old in attendance, and of the four children present (2 of mine, 2 of my son's godfather's), he is the only child who has done unusual things like try to stick chopsticks down the central vaccuuming outlet, trying to stick pens into the toaster, and (successful) jamming a VCR with a whole host of DvDs.

I.e. sparklers and this toddler would be a disaster.
