I've discovered one unfortunate thing about writing, or attempting to write, two novels concurrently. I'm incapable of writing anything else. I finish writing for the day, and any creativity, any wit, and most of my outrage (okay that last might be a bit of an overstatement), has evaporated, leaving me strangely silent. This would be why I have been absent; I stare at the screen and cannot think of one interesting thing to say.

But! .

Cast in Fury made the extended NYT trade paperback fiction list for the 19th of October. My editor emailed me with the news on Thursday. I work at the store on Friday, and when I got home from work, I discovered these:

Sent by my editor and Tracey Langmiur, from Luna, to help celebrate this fact. They are really very nice, in that picture-doesn't-do-them-justice way.

We need to catch up on your books! It would help if we got out of the house more often (say on Monday nights :-))

Congrats on #32 - Your new lucky number.

I haven't read yet, but can't wait until it arrives.

Thanks for yet another cool series.

It is :).

I don't think the list is on-line, yet -- I could be wrong (my husband was trying to find it via the usual google).

It may have just recently posted - Here is the URL (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/19/books/bestseller/bestpapertradefiction.html).

Congrats again - my happy dance for you still continues (and my cats are still scared of it)

Congratulations! I'm really looking forward to reading it.

In the interim, I've been reading The Hidden City and really enjoying it! The only thing that is bugging me is that I can't remember who is in Jewel's den by the end of the Sun Sword series. So, rather than wait until House Name is released (me, patient....well, usually :) I'm going to re-read Hunter's Death. I know, cheating, but...

WEE!
I saw the books in the store the other day... I sometimes wish Being Broke was a person so I could slap them around a bit.

Congratulations!!

You may not post often, but at least you post with great news!

I already said I loved the book (which is not surprising given how weighted my scale is wrt your books), but it definitely worked for me. I really like that we are seeing deep into the cultural ethos of each species, and I am very excited about what is coming. I know that the timeline is incredibly short from book one to book four, but I like that even though it has been only a few months, Kaylin is definitely maturing. It wouldn't feel authentic to me if she changed too much, too quickly, but I think you are doing a great job of letting her grow while keeping her true to herself.

Enough. Congratulations again, and I hope to get my book signed soon. I need a complete set again; that was nice.

Michael

Michelle,

I picked up Cast in Fury from Fictionwise and promptly got captured by your story. Fifteen seconds after completing your novel, and putting aside all the things I ought to have been doing in order to read it straight through, I purchased the rest of the "Cast" series from Fictionwise.

Thanks for writing Kaylin's story, thank you for making them available electronically and please, please keep writing.

Regards,
Glenn

Hi Michelle,
I feel like this is as good a place as any to finally write my big gushing note to you about how much I love your books. I started reading the Cast series in December, and I was caught up through "Fury" just a couple weeks later. In reading those books, I was completely sucked into the pages; the world you painted within those pages was so vivid and spectacular that I recall those weeks spent reading as a kind of waking dream. And I wished that I would never wake up. I suppose that's why this genre of literature is often referred to as "fantasy", and yet the word does not even begin to describe the way your writing touches readers. The fallibility of your characters, the realness of their mannerisms and their emotions, reaches out to the reader in such a profoundly intimate way. Indeed, waiting for Cast in Silence is much the same as waiting for dear friends to return from a long journey -- one feels a profound sadness at their absence, and looks longingly toward their return. Your writing has touched my life in a very special way, and I just wanted to express my admiration for you and for the fantastic tales that you write, which I feel so privileged to experience as a reader.
One of your many fans,
Robyn
