I've discovered one unfortunate thing about writing, or attempting to write, two novels concurrently. I'm incapable of writing anything else. I finish writing for the day, and any creativity, any wit, and most of my outrage (okay that last might be a bit of an overstatement), has evaporated, leaving me strangely silent. This would be why I have been absent; I stare at the screen and cannot think of one interesting thing to say.

But! .

Cast in Fury made the extended NYT trade paperback fiction list for the 19th of October. My editor emailed me with the news on Thursday. I work at the store on Friday, and when I got home from work, I discovered these:

Sent by my editor and Tracey Langmiur, from Luna, to help celebrate this fact. They are really very nice, in that picture-doesn't-do-them-justice way.

Congratulations! It's nice to see your work getting some of the commercial recognition it deserves. :-) And hopefully this means we'll see more Kaylin books beyond the next one.

We need to catch up on your books! It would help if we got out of the house more often (say on Monday nights :-))

Congrats

Congrats on #32 - Your new lucky number.

I haven't read yet, but can't wait until it arrives.

Thanks for yet another cool series.

Congratulations! I'm really looking forward to reading it.

In the interim, I've been reading The Hidden City and really enjoying it! The only thing that is bugging me is that I can't remember who is in Jewel's den by the end of the Sun Sword series. So, rather than wait until House Name is released (me, patient....well, usually :) I'm going to re-read Hunter's Death. I know, cheating, but...

Thought I'd let you know that Amazon.co.uk underestimated demand for Cast in Fury. I preordered from them for the book release due in the UK on 3 October but was told on 2 October that they'd be unable to fulfill my order until 31 October to 15 November (presume that's when the next print run is expected).

Something like that seemed to have happened with Amazon.com, as well -- they seemed to move the date of ship to December, but moved it back again around release time.

My editor has definitely said she wants more, which is good, because there's more I want to write about (Wolves, Aerians, Dragon Court and one refugee book which touches upon the existence of other planes, among them).

That hat reminds me, in a way, of my much-loved Firefly.

I had a terrific time at ConClave, and I had a lot of fun on the various panels with you :).

It is :).

I don't think the list is on-line, yet -- I could be wrong (my husband was trying to find it via the usual google).

It may have just recently posted - Here is the URL (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/19/books/bestseller/bestpapertradefiction.html).

Congrats again - my happy dance for you still continues (and my cats are still scared of it)

Hurray! Your work definitely deserves this kind of recognition :) I thought the book was going to be out later, but since it's out, I'm getting it tomorrow. Hubby is ecstatic XD

WEE!
I saw the books in the store the other day... I sometimes wish Being Broke was a person so I could slap them around a bit.

Squeee! More books! Good news for me, bad news for everyone around me; I've been making myself and everyone around me crazy for the last couple of months over this series. ;)

I made out with my copy when it arrived. Amazon came through and sent it early, but only after I spent the week prior calling every bookstore in the area looking for early copies. ;)

So I finished Cast in Fury in one go on Sunday night, and while I don't think it's the best book in the series (I think the second one was best so far), I do think it's my second most favourite.

I also hope you were able to sell more of them to the publisher (especially after this welcome bit of news).

The discussions about future books were promising, but I won't actually have real information until I finish and turn in Cast in Silence, which is the second book of the previous two book deal.

I'll post as soon as I have any news, though!

YAY!!!

Congratulations!!

You may not post often, but at least you post with great news!

I already said I loved the book (which is not surprising given how weighted my scale is wrt your books), but it definitely worked for me. I really like that we are seeing deep into the cultural ethos of each species, and I am very excited about what is coming. I know that the timeline is incredibly short from book one to book four, but I like that even though it has been only a few months, Kaylin is definitely maturing. It wouldn't feel authentic to me if she changed too much, too quickly, but I think you are doing a great job of letting her grow while keeping her true to herself.

Enough. Congratulations again, and I hope to get my book signed soon. I need a complete set again; that was nice.

Michael

More Elantra Books...Yes!!!!!!!!!!!

I am very excited that you possibly would be writing more books...I agree with one of the blog here that Cast in Fury was not one of the best ones...It goes like this...Cast in Courtlight....Cast in Shadow.....Cast in Secret....Cast in Fury...When book is missing stimulating interaction between Nightshade and Kaylin...the book loses it's vital charm...I hope you would explore more time between them with main story Arch for upcoming books...It would be interesting to bring back interaction between Kaylin and the brother of High Lord of Barrani from the book 2.

Well of course it made the NY Times paperback list. It's a damn good book!
