As a book buyer, I will only buy Small Press / Self-Published if I already know and like the author. (I have a couple of favorite authors who had to go that route when their books weren't being bought by the bigger imprints.) I won't even touch a book if it looks like a Small Press imprint in a dealer's room, but didn't realize what I was using for cues.
And I would have sworn that I didn't care about cover art.
