I don't know; Facebook, and even moreso for Twitter just feel like the internet version of smalltalk - something I dread. Only with those two things it's (at least in theory) an all the time thing.
I used to think this -- but I admit that matociquala's tweets often make me laugh out loud, usually when I'm in the middle of a paragraph that is all thorns and no roses and I'm trying to hack my way out with a dull pocket knife...
It's also often like a chat room in which you can come and go at need, so you have some contact with your friends, but you don't have to be brilliant, entertaining, or even awake. Which, sadly, is me most days. As in, not those things.
