As a note: I didn't mean that MM or GG were PODs. Wheatland [publishers of Polyphony & beginning to publish collections] is a POD small press. They pay in advance and pay pro rates [Polyphony is an annual anthology, so short stories paid].
Just wanted your take on small presses since they do seem to be an up & coming force, but not (yet?) in the chains.
