What's amazing is that there are still books which can go through _multiple_ printings within the first month (Karen Joy Fowler's _The Jane Austen Book Club_ springs to mind; our second order at Other Change of Hobbit was fifth printings!) When a book goes through multiple printings immediately, it is a sign that the publisher seriously underestimated what it would do in sales.

This (for an author) is rather like winning the lottery: unlikely and unexpected.
