It appears that the Greeks won the semi-finals.

How do I know this? Yes! Car horns. Lots of. I wish I were a sports geek. (If there can be such a creature).

Yup — beat the Czechs 1-0, and will play Portugal on Sunday (and they beat them 2-1 in the first round, which should make it interesting).

Since you seem to be conversant with these things, at what time should either Stewart or I avoid the streets, duck for cover, and find earplugs?

Of course there are -- consider the sorts of baseball statistics which are carefully compiled and calculated and cross-referenced.

I almost hate to ask this, but if Portugal and Greece won their semi-final rounds, does this imply that they're the two teams in the finals, or do I not understand the structure?

And just think of all the car horns you'll hear for the final on Sunday! Lucky you :-(

As for sports geeks, I'm married to one. They're not so bad once you get to know them.

My assumption is that if I were one, I would find this as exciting as everyone else in the neighbourhood. People have their toddlers out at midnight, with the big Greek flags -- it's like a street party. With cars. And horns, which I'm probably going on about too much <wry g>.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I have been assimilated. Sort of. while England were still in the running, I was watching all their matches. All the Portugal ones too, because a friend of mine here is portugese and a rabid football fan. The interest ran out when England lost, though. I'm told Canada has a football team, but we suck so badly we never actually make it into any of the international games.

arg.

I sometimes watch winter sports during the Olympics. And figure skating, about which there are always arguments (does it count as a sport or not). But I'll try very hard not to remember this when I see you in Toronto. Because, of course, I expect to see you while you're in Toronto <g>.
