I am in the process of slowly answering email. It's dismaying to see how very behind I am, because I've answered about eighty-five, and the queue hasn't noticeably shrunk. To anyone who has sent me email in the last mumble mumble, I offer my grovelling apologies for the absence of any reply.

I am almost finished Cast in Fury, the fourth of the Kaylin novels.

And I've been asked to be the GoH at Conclave in 2008, the weekend of October 3-5th. I've also happily accepted, and while it's a long way away, it's never too early to pencil things into your Calendar. Except, of course, the calendar on my wall still has a chunk of 2007 left...

w00t!

my all purpose congratulatory expression these days, although I suspect it is hopelessly out of fashion.

I don't think congratulatory expressions go out of fashion :). We went away for the weekend, btw, and my youngest son's most fondly asked question was "what are we having (our next meal)". Which is ironic given he is easily the pickiest eater in the extended family, bar none.

Congrats on the GoH! I was Fan GoH at ConClave a bunch of years ago and the GoH was Gene Wolfe. He and his wife Rosemary were soooooooo nice to me, and of course I love a lot of his writing. It was very nice.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I'm sort of glad it was years ago -- I would die if you were fan GoH next year. Because, you know, being embarassed enough to hide behind the nearest available person is probably not suitable GoH behaviour, and you are second only to you-know-who in the school of gleeful embarassing of me.

Really? I didn't think I was even in the top five (maybe top 10). Perhaps I'm more gleeful than Reid ...

I am pleased you were asked - was this a hint I should stay away so as not to disrupt your GoH-ness? It's been a while since I've been to a Michigan con (ConFusion, ConClave, Contraption) and I miss Zingerman's Deli, too.

Top two Joey. Although yes, Reid is right up there. The problem with the three of you is it is impossible to embarrass you in return. It's just flat impossible.

Cast in Secret

Ms. Sagara,
After I finished reading Cast in Secret, (congratulations, btw, it is great!) I flipped back through the first book, Cast in Shadow, as I am wont to do after finishing the latest book of a series... I noticed a couple inconsistencies... I must apologize, I am far too picky, but I need to know! What it was that I noticed is that in the first book, you describe Severn as having red hair and blue eyes, but in your latest book, you write that he has brown eyes. And also, in Cast in Secret, you wrote that Tiamaris spoke mainly Elantran during the events of Cast in Shadow, but he actually mainly spoke Barrani... I am sorry, I just wanted to know... Thank you. :-)

This would probably be inconsistency - I think I also got one name wrong =( in the third book.

I have a very bad habit of not noticing eye colours in real life (or clothing unless it's outrageous or the person is defined by their clothing), and because it's a detail that I personally do not notice, I have a list of characters by name with eye colours (well, and facial hair; I'm bad about that too) -- but if I'm absolutely certain at the time, I don't check it >.<.

I think I knew my husband for 6 years before I could reliably say what colour his eyes were >.>, and only then because I deliberately paid attention while asking myself the question.

But the other, I would have to check; Tiamaris -will- speak Elantran; the other Dragons won't.
