msagaraI'm getting very excited about this weekend, because I'll be heading down to Pittsburgh for Confluence 2004.
What makes this convention special is that my husband is coming with me, and we're travelling without our two children, who will stay at home with my sister, who'll be arriving for her Summer visit the day before we leave.

ohiblather is going to be there, with the rest of Urban Tapestry -- and I'll actually be able to go and watch them in concert, as opposed to what usually happens when we're both at a convention together (scheduling conflicts). trektone and zencuppa are going to be there as well -- if I'm missing anyone, speak up <g>. I got email from someone I used to correspond with via the r.a.sf usenet group asking if we could get together, and I'm looking forward to that as well; I've never met her in real life.
And Gordon Van Gelder just sent me email mentioning that, among the other review books being sent, there's an ARC of "something or other called GOING POSTAL by some guy Pritchett? Cratchett?" I squealed <g>. He knows that I'm just shy of being a total Pratchett fanatic. Probably on the wrong side <g>. New Donaldson Covenant novel, RUNES OF EARTH, is also on its way.
HOUSE WAR is going well*, and I've accepted that it's just not going to be written at the blazing speed of, say, CAST IN SHADOW :/. Or, for that matter, SUN SWORD itself. I write endings quickly because the writing of a story -- for me -- is the slow struggle to move a large boulder up hill and the ending is the moment at which the hill has been crested and the rock is in great danger of getting away.
*well = pages that have not been erased from the hard-drive in instant loathing. It's me. I do have moments of intense joy in my writing -- but they don't last very long. I'm trying to do something about this <wry g>.

Date: 2004-07-20 04:53 pm (UTC)BTW, I've enjoyed your posts, in particular the one regarding relationships and how your reactions to them change over time (16 to 20 to 30, etc). You wonderfully put into words what I've felt regarding the change from oh-my-god-my-life-will-end-without-you drama to something stronger and deeper. Of course, you ARE a writer and people sort of pay you to write, um, well. Yeah. Stopping now.

Date: 2004-07-20 09:16 pm (UTC)The new Pratchett is a stand alone Discworld novel <g>. It features a new character, but is set in Discworld, and it's one of the adult books, so it's a decent length. I would probably read anything he wrote, though. Even the calendars. He has a particular turn of phrase that I find both funny and moving.
The post regarding relationships has spoken to a number of people; it almost makes me want to hold forth on the rest of my musings about relationships in general <wry g>.
