I live in Greektown, or what is colliquially called Greektown, in Toronto.

It is a habit of mine to go and get a cup of coffee when the kids have gone to bed; the local Timothy's (I'm a coffee wimp and can't actually drink 'better' coffee; it curdles my tongue) closes at 11:00, so it's a quiet walk to the Danforth and a quiet walk back to my house. I like the peace. And the quiet.

Which there wasn't much of, tonight. Read more... )

Can those of you who made the decision to go for a paid account tell me what the practical differences are (I can read the FAQ, and have, but it seems from FAQ reading that there's very little practical difference).

In other news, I'm working on the revisions for my first Luna novel at the moment; I've just finished rereading everything of relevance in SUN SWORD in preparation for the next leg of HOUSE WAR. I've written thousands of words on the weekend -- none of it with any commercial value whatsoever. That would be the poetry. 1 of the 6 cycles is actually word perfect, imho; but the rest, not so much.

And the correct response, when told -- by me, let me hasten to add (for Larry's sake if no one else's) -- "I'm working on poetry" is "I'm sorry to hear that." Or, "poor you." "Who died?" is also acceptable.

I started my writing life as a poet, published a few pieces in University reviews, and then embarked on my life as a professional liar -- which is to say, a writer of fiction.

Every so often, however, I have the same compulsion that used to drive me into the corners of crowded rooms, with scraps of paper and a pen I stole from some bewildered stranger, and I write poetry.

KP and I were discussing poetry tonight. Or rather, we were discussing a collection of poetry which I thought should have been severely edited before it saw print -- because had it been, I would have loved it. I know that poetry is hard to edit -- but oddly enough, while I would not touch a single word of the same writer's -prose- (or most prose, really, as I'm not a line-editor for other's work), I would fiddle all over the place with other's poetry, if allowed.

I'm not sure why. In fact, I'm not sure why I write the poetry, because there is not only no intent to have it published, there is an active intent to have it buried.

Anyone else?

Hrm.

Accuracy seems to be a bit of a problem.

I have only just figured out how to add friends. I am stumbling my way toward GUI from the world of GEnie and usenet postings. If I offend anyone, well, who's going to be surprised?

This is a test of Xjournal and LJ in general. I'm having a small problem in that I don't think I'm the ideal candidate for keeping a journal, but would like, on occasion, to post to the journals of friends who do have ongoing journals.
