Quick Update
Oct. 13th, 2004 01:49 pmI've been absent. My internet service provider is trying to give me an ulcer. My email has been done via an ancient dial-up, and I'm behind, oh, about a week, which in LJ terms is almost forever.
They're replacing wires and other junk now, and at the moment, we're up. So I'm sneaking in to tell you all that I'm working on the round-up of the post-contract stuff now, and I hope to post it here in the next little while <crossing fingers>.
In other news: HOUSE WAR will be 2 books (everyone who reads me, try to look surprised), and the second Luna novel is being fun. Fun is good.

Adam & raising of Cities of Man: Series unto itself
Kallandras & Celleriant
Myrddion's rings: we only know where three even are (Currently eight books long)
Kiriel: Debatably part of Jewel's den
Jewel walking the Oracle's path
Avandar: Redeemed or not
Steven's son and huntbrother
Meralonne & Caralonne
The House War (Obviously)
That's all I remember off the top of my head. I'm sure I'm forgetting two or three. A lot of these intertwine pretty significantly. I'll believe it's done when I see it on the shelf.
Not that I'm compaining, mind. The story is just that big.
(Waits to get hit by tomatoes. No use ducking when you're asking for it anyway.) >g<

The House War (Obviously)
Of this very long list, HOUSE WAR will address, well, the House War. The outcome of the House War will, in large part, decide in which direction Jewel moves throughout the rest of the books -- and no, actually, I'm not certain yet, which is also in part why I'm writing it. I can easily see her going in one of two directions, but usually when I start writing, other avenues open up just to cause trouble <wry g>.
So when I say HOUSE WAR is two books, what I really mean is ... the House War is two books. Or, to be even more exact, there are two books so far in this sequence, the first of which involves the building of the den (which means it takes place largely in the past), and the second of which involves the building of the House, so to speak.
And with my sterling record, I'm certain that I can resolve the war for the House in a single volume. Yes, sir. That's me. Oh, and keep all the rest of the plot threads entirely self-contained. Ummm.
Gah.
BLACK GAUNTLET, which is the start of the End of Days sequence, and is going to be <mumble mumble> books, will address, or begin the long road to addressing, almost all of the rest. I have about 500 pages of HOUSE WAR and about 250 pages of BLACK GAUNTLET in hand.

Those of us who are writing long, multi-volume sagas try hard not to take as criticism comments from people who are obviously avidly reading them <g>. There are a lot of things that were started in DEATH that have a clear end well after SUN SWORD; I knew about Kiriel, then, for instance. And I'm aware that I'll probably fail to tie up everything, or at least everything everyone is curious about, by the time things come to a close -- there are always questions that surprise me.
None of those, though, are on that list.
