Is there a reason you're Sagara West on all but the last?

Umm, yes. It was a typo (which I will now fix) in the schedule (they did catch it), and apparently I failed to edit in the cut-and-paste ...

I am really upset I can't go this year. Unfortunately I have to study for Three preliminary exams for my new PhD program (Algebra, Analysis, and Topology).

What are you going to be reading on Saturday?

What are you going to be reading on Saturday?

I'm not exactly certain yet. I think I have an hour, but as you know, I tend to babble a bit at the -beginning- of the hour in a non-reading sort of way. What I want to read is actually part of the middle section of City of Night. But...it's in the middle. The beginning is too long.

I'd read the first chapter of Cast in Chaos, because that's what I'm working on now -- but no one will have read Silence at that point, so I'd have to worry about spoilers (and there are a couple of big ones).

So...

Yes! Fretting time! *wry g*

As a kindle owner... be kind to us! I really wish I could sit in on that panel, I'm sure it will be wonderfully interesting.

Have a great time!

I pretty much work with words; how people prefer to read them, if they do want to read them, is almost -- but not quite -- beside the point, to me. That said, my short answer to the panel question is 'No'. It's my strong suspicion that the people who are loving the kindle are already diehard readers; the kindle makes it possible to carry back-breaking loads of books in a way that doesn't. Break the back, I mean.

Although it's one of the questions I would ask at the panel: How many of you weren't already voracious readers?

I agree with that. People aren't going to spend $300 on a kindle if they don't read. All the same, I think if it benefits anything other than my gadget love, it could benefit short fiction. I usually only buy anthologies if I have several authors I love writing in one, but a single short story on the kindle for cheap, I'll buy.

I'd be interested in hearing what verdicts come out of the Kindle panel. Don't have one, personally, but I do own a Sony Reader, which I love. I do find that I tend to have more books on the go at one time with the ebook reader, since it's easy to switch back and forth without having to carry multiple books.
