I've been absent. My internet service provider is trying to give me an ulcer. My email has been done via an ancient dial-up, and I'm behind, oh, about a week, which in LJ terms is almost forever.

They're replacing wires and other junk now, and at the moment, we're up. So I'm sneaking in to tell you all that I'm working on the round-up of the post-contract stuff now, and I hope to post it here in the next little while <crossing fingers>.

In other news: HOUSE WAR will be 2 books (everyone who reads me, try to look surprised), and the second Luna novel is being fun. Fun is good.

Feigns shock.

Fortunately I'm online, where I'm better at keeping a straight face and being convincing.

Are you sure it's only two? (ducking)

(I actually did have a short story surprise me and want to be a novel, for the first time in my life, just a few weeks ago. A 100-page novel, but still--it's interesting, this business of discovering the scope of what you're writing is larger than you thought.)

Aren't you lucky! EVERY short story I write wants to be a novel, or so my critters tell me. They aren't usually too happy when I tell them I have more than enough novels planned (16 in one world setting, 3 in another, and a possible series of at least 3 or 4 in yet another) so what's I've written for the short is it.

Apparently I still have to get that whole "definite ending" thing down for short stories. :P

I was wondering where you were at, Michelle. I missed you! Btw, finally picked up your first novel (and, bad me, the name is escaping me for some reason - probably because I'm working on Quest for Ehlarayn right now) and i plan to read it soon, but I also just got birthday books from a friend and started reading the Weetzie Bat omnibus. Anyway, welcome back. I'll keep my fingers crossed your connection stabilizes again. ;)

My problem used to be that none of my stories wanted to be novels--three to five thousand words used to be my favorite length, and I still like writing at same.

But not all stories fit into that length comfortably, any more than all fit a novel comfortably.

Interestingly enough, this was pretty much exactly my response. *g*

It's the HOUSE WAR. It's not the End of Days. How could it be longer than two? Yes, this was an entirely rhetorical question. No, don't feel obliged to answer it <g>.

Obligated, no. But what if we want to? (ducking)

After all, just following every character in Jewel's den is good for at least four books. And maybe even a fifth book back in the south just for Adam and Celleriant. A sort of epilogue book. (ducking faster)

This is why I have friends <wry g>. I mean, in case I run out of moving targets (and I know where [livejournal.com profile] kchew lives).

WFC, btw?

Hey, some of us are still waiting to find out about Stephen and Cynthia's child. :-)

WFC definitely--am looking forward to it! Shall we rely on the vagaries of the con to meet up, or plan a time ahead? I'll be there by Thursday evening...

Given how the vaguaries of Worldcon turned out, I'm all in favour of planning (and this is unusual for me <wry g>). I'll be arriving at some terrible hour in the morning on Thursday -- I think 9:30 or something -- because it was the only flight that didn't arrive at some late hour in the evening, and leaving on Sunday in an attempt to catch Halloween at home.
